Horst Janssen is one of the most distinguished german artists in drawing and graphic arts. He grew up with his grandparents in Oldenburg. In 1992, Oldenburg offered him the honorable citizenship award and Janssen accepted with great pleasure. In November 2000, the City of Oldenburg inaugurated the Horst-Janssen-Museum in honor to the artist. Encounter with his work and his personality Horst Janssen shows so many forms and themes: landscape, erotism, portraits, still-life, drawings, graphics, prints, illustrations, posters, books …
On two floors, the Horst-Janssen-Museum shows in selected typical groupings: etching-suites, lithographs, drawings and water-colours, posters and illustrations. Horst Janssen is shown among his teachers and fellow-students as well as objects designed or painted by him, such as a silken carpet, a grandpiano and a writing desk. The studio of Horst Janssen gives an idea of how he worked. The printing press, where most of his etchings were created, is not only there to be looked at but also to be used in workshops. Videos and information terminals offer the opportunity to multimedial discoveries into the thoughts an artistic work of Horst Janssen.

There is direct access from there to the Horst-Janssen-Museum (follow the signs).
